Announcing that the 208 will start from just £16,250 and the e-208 from £25,050 in Active trim (which includes the £3,500 government grant), Peugeot seem to have aggressively priced their new model line up to take on the competition.
We’re releasing this article now, as 600 journalists from around the world have had their first proper look and test of the 208 in multiple guises in Comporta, Portugal. Ramping up visibility for the 208 to ensure orders come in thick and fast to make this super little car, a smashing success.
The 208 has always been somewhat on our radar as myself, have owned many Peugeot’s, the last being a 207 GTi, having owned 206, 106, 405, 607 over the years, I can personally see the value offered by the brand and with the release of their who new line up with absolute stunners like the 308, 3008, 5008, new 508 upcoming 2008 and now this new 208. PSA have got a LOT going on and much going for them whilst some manufacturers seem to be pushing tired old models out with slight refreshes. It’s lovely to see bold new styling and effort from the big french lion!
David Peel, Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK, said: “The all-new PEUGEOT 208 represents the first step in PEUGEOT’s vision of providing our customers with the ‘power of choice’ i.e. ‘choose your PEUGEOT, choose your powertrain.’ With class-leading levels of technology, sharp styling and a distinctive driving experience, we expect the all-new 208 and the all-new e-208 to challenge the norm in this sector of the market.”
It’s true that the e-208 will be Peugeot’s first fully electric vehicle. This is an exciting first because Peugeot want to make it normal that you can walk into a showroom, pick which car you like then choose whatever powertrain you want. With a range of 211 miles (WLTP) this is anything but a entry level electric vehicle, it will get you where you want to go with no fuss and that huge range should curb those range anxiety fears.
Active trim in the non electric 208 starts at £16,250, this gets you 16″ alloys, active braking with pedestrian detection, electrically operated and heated door mirrors, LED daytime running lights with Peugeot new ‘tooth’ design. The 2-208 meanwhile in active trim gets you 16″ steel wheels presumably for weight saving and aerodynamics but does add electronic climate control and pre-heating for those cold winter mornings.
Allure sits in the middle and gains you some nice features at £18,850 for fossil fuelled variants and £26,250 (after grant) for e-208. 17″ Diamond Cut alloys (16″ Alloys on e-208), 3D i-Cockpit® with configurable 3D head-up instrument panel, tri-material leather effect seat trim with double stitching, gloss black B pillar and the signature claw effect full LED 3D lights at the rear.
GT Line is the TOTR for the petrol and diesels starting at £20,700 and £28,100 (after grant) for the e-208. Immediately you now have front and rear parking sensors with a 180 Degree field of view reversing camera, 17″ wheels on both fossil and electric versions, active safety braking with night function, cyclist and pedestrian detection. Eight-colour ambient interior lighting, and full LED headlights with PEUGEOT Smartbeam Assist. Gloss black wheel arch extensions and dual chrome exhaust tips for Petrol and Diesel.
The e-208 gets it’s own exclusive further range topping trim, GT. For £29,650 (after grant) you get a raft of upgrades, fully automated parking assistance, adaptive cruise control, lane positioning assist with blind spot monitoring. 3D i-Cockpit with a larger 10″ touchscreen and Connected 3D navigation. Whilst being cosseted by grey Alcantara leather trim with front seat heating.
